ESR Book Cover

Written by Valerie Monckton and Wasseem Emam of Ethical Seafood Research and illustrated by Travis Jeans, Understanding Our Underwater Cousins explores the hidden world of aquatic animal welfare, guiding readers through the blue with engaging illustrations and thought-provoking activities.

Detail

I designed and illustrated the front and back cover (including spine) which feature multicolour illustrations of aquatic animals free in their natural habitat - some recognisable fish might be anchovies, mackerel, sablefish, lobsters, and tiger shrimp.

I worked with one of the book's authors, Valerie Monckton, to ensure the visuals adhered to the ESR brand guidelines and would appeal to the target audience.

This collaboration would not have been possible without the help of the Vegan Hacktivists job board The Playground!

Tools used include Clip Studio Paint, Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher.

Despite that, we rarely see them. So, who are these animals and how do our actions affect them? Understanding our Underwater Cousins will take you below the water's surface, challenging you with puzzles and quizzes as we explore our interactions with aquatic animals through their eyes.
